Annotated’s mission is to provide individuals of all backgrounds free access to literature, art, historical documents, and philosophical works and the materials necessary to understand and appreciate them.
We believe that access to the history of ideas—and the means to understand them—should not come with a price tag, but ought to be freely available to anyone who has the desire to learn about our species’ greatest humanistic achievements. We hold that open access to the humanities is not a privilege but an inherent right of all simply by virtue of being human. We seek not merely to provide works that are already free, but also the means by which to make those works fully comprehensible to students, scholars, and lifelong learners of all ages by providing free access to annotated and critical editions of unabridged classic texts and art.
