Jesse Freeston is a filmmaker and video-journalist based in Montréal, Québec.
Jesse was a key member of The Real News Network where from 2009 to 2011 he produced more than 100 investigative video pieces on economics, politics and social movements in North and Central America. From 2012-2015, Jesse directed five news documentaries and provided regular reporting for teleSUR, the world’s largest public Spanish-language broadcaster. He has collaborated on numerous video projects including working as: a co-producer for Al Jazeera’s ‘Fault Lines’, as a member of Montréal’s CUTV news collective, as a shooter/editor for the Montréal chapter of Vice News, and has worked as a freelance shooter for Fusion, 60 Second Docs, BBC’s HardTalk and Democracy Now, among others. He also works as a shooter/editor on independent film projects such as: Diego Briceño’s upcoming interactive project Hectarium and Pablo Aravena’s upcoming film Chile Estyle.
He has completed two independent documentaries of his own: 2013’s Revolutionary Medicine: A Story of the First Garifuna Hospital (co-directed by Beth Geglia) and in 2015 he released his first feature-length documentary, Resistencia: The Fight for the Aguan Valley. He is currently developing his most ambitous project yet, Human Park.
While he has often worked alone, he prefers to surround himself with solid, honest and creative people. That’s why Jesse is co-founder, along with filmmaker Lia Tarachansky, of Naretiv Productions as well as a proud member of Montréal’s digital media co-operative, Makila.
